Sitio Burle Marx: Walking through the Mind of a Genius

On one of our last days in Rio we visited the former home, garden, and workshop of famed Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. It is not a typical tourist attraction because it is far outside of the City (our Uber was almost one hour) and most people don't know what landscape architecture is, let alone a specific Brazilian landscape architect. But as a landscape architect (Z) this was a must visit. Since Burle Marx past away in the mid-1990s his home has been transformed into a research center and public space.

Burle Marx never intended his home as a public space, rather he used the garden as a nursery to both propagate plants (his collection is massive) and experiment. Our guide told us that Burle Marx was known to travel internationally with a very large coat that had special pockets sewn in so he could "smuggle" seeds back to Brazil. Anyways, as with many of the places we have visited words cannot do Sitio Burle Marx justice so please enjoy the sampling of photos:
