La Semana Final en Quito...con Cafe!

Ecuador is known for producing many wonderful things, including coffee. However, for our first three weeks here we could not find a decent cup of coffee (granted we were not looking very hard). Well, on our third weekend, we finally broke down and did the only sensible thing we could think of, Google "Best coffee shops in Quito". We can happily report that we tried two fantastic places (Cafe Rio Intag and Isveglio) and have been sufficiently caffeinated since.

We recommend both! Rio Intag is cheaper, with a more hipster vibe, and is attached to an independent movie theater. also, the music selection is top notch. Isveglio is high end coffee, period. If you need to get some work done in a place that will help you stay focused, Isveglio is the place for you.

We realize this post is only about coffee but we did do some actual things in Quito during our final week. We took the TelefériQo to the top of volcano Pinchincha that overlooks Quito. And we hiked up a bit further which was nice but pretty cloudy (see our Who Wore It Best #3). However, at the end of the hike back we saw 2 huge condors flying right above us! It was super magical and amazing (and apparently rare to see there).

Also, we visited Guayasamín's house at Fundación Guayasamín. He is the most famous Ecuatorian painter and besides from the architecture of his house being amazing (he co-designed it) his work is very moving. And, he also built a 'Chapel of Man' where his work depicts different suffering that humans have endured through wars, and other historic tragedies, is on display and is very moving. We could not take pictures inside the 'Chapel of Man', but definitely Google search his work.
